Pakistan KKH Ali Abad to Gilgit and Dunyore 2013

We left Ali Abad village for Gilgit City.

Lush green field.

Leaving Ali Abad. This stretch of the KKH to Gilgit is still under construction.

A village perched on a River cliff ...

Farmers in Hunza Valley cultivate various crops according to the season. Wheat, Rice and corn are cultivated, fruits such as apricot, grapes, and cherry are planted, apples and pears too. Cash crops like potatoes is abundant here.

Bridge built by the Chinese,,,note the lantern motives...

Construction works near Miachar, Naga Valley. Human muscles and hammers are still in use with very few modern heavy machinery.

Mount Rakaposhi in the distance is covered in white and clouds.

Rakaposhi means "snow covered". It is also known as Dumani ("Mother of Mist" or "Mother of Clouds") by the locals. It is the highest unbroken slope in the world with an almost 6,000 metres drop from the tip to the beautifully cultivated fields below.

School children helping themselves to some water.

Hillside farms

Willow trees line the KKH at Gouro village, Naga Valley. We are now about 44km to Gilgit.

Local provision shops selling local fruits like grapes, melon and bananas etc at Gouro village.

Another stall selling clothes and local fruits.

After Gouro, we passed through a few more villages such as Rahim Abad, Nomal, Jutal etc before arriving at Dunyore town at noon. By this time, we had passed through four police checkpoints.

At Danyore, we looked around for a place to have lunch. Uncertain where to go, we stopped and asked a young man standing in front of a  Coke Cola distributor . It turns out, the young man, must be Owner's son, was tending to the shop. Ferdous promptly closed the shutters to his shop and waved at us to follow him.
We followed him round the corner to Lazzat Point Restaurant. We would not have found this place on our own. Even if we did, the place did not look like it was open yet. Anyway, Ferdous spoke to the cook and ordered us some Briyani rice. As we waited, we chatted with Ferdous. He was studying at Lahore Uni and is home for semester break.. When we met him, he was helping out with the family store distributing Coca Cola in the Northern Pakistan.

We noticed it was taking a while for the Briyani to come.. It turns out, the restaurant was not quite open yet.. Nevertheless, they still cooked the Briyani rice for us, so we waited patiently. We had some green tea and cupcakes and continued chatting with Ferdous.

Not too long after, a couple of Police Officers came in and started talking to Ferdous. He then related to us that as foreigners it was not safe for us stop too long
and was told to leave as soon as we are done with lunch. There had been some conflict amongst the locals and tension is getting high. By this time we had been waiting for more than an hour. We did not want to take up much more of Ferdous time, nor land him in trouble with the police, so we decided to get our Briyani packed when it is ready. He insisted on paying for our lunch. After several tries to pay for it ourselves, we finally gave in and let Ferdous treat us. We thanked him for his generousity. After saying our goodbyes, we left Danyore at about 1.30pm.

We ate the Briyani in our Hotel Room.

Gilgit Arch, beckons us to the City.

We headed for Gilgit and checked in at Park Hotel.
