Austria - Salzburg

Arriving at Freilassing, Southeastern Germany, we headed for Salzburg, Austria crossing the border on the Bridge on the Salzach River.





Salzburg is an Austrian city located close to the border with Germany and the Eastern Alps. The Historic City is divided by the Salach River, with medieval and baroque buildings, pedestrian friendly Altstadt (Old City) on its left bank, and the New City on its right.



Having parked Our Sorento at a safe place, we walked through the Sigmund’s Gate to the Old Town of Salzburg , famed for the musical Sound of Music...we first watch the musical when were children.....Iy wasone of my favourite besides Ben Hur and Sydney Poitier's "To Sir...with Love"..ya Dr. Zhivago starring Omar Shariff




17th Centuary Pferdeschwemmen or Horse Well or Horse Pond The centre of the well i1s a statue named The Horse Tamer. The new frescos were only painted later.



This Horse Pond is located next to the Sigmund’s Gate. The pond was designed and built in 1693 by Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach. In 20th century it became famous as one of the sets of the movie ‘Sound of Music’

The Fortress Hohenstaufen is the location of the Musical... Sound Of Music





Fortress Hohenstzburg is one of the original shooting location for the musical movie “The Sound of Music”. 



Fortress Hohenstaufen is a real eye-catcher, high above the Baroque towers of the city. The Fortress is a visible landmark made famous by the popular musical "Soud of music .starred by Julie Andrews more than 50 years ago

The 900-year-old clifftop Fortress is one of the biggest and best preserved Fortress in Europe






Getreidegasse is a busy shopping street in the historic Altstadt of Salzburg, Austria, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Salzburg Cathedral is the seventeenth-century Baroque Cathedral of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Salzburg in the city of Salzburg, built in 1811.

The Cathedral is located in avast Baroque complex is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it offers art and cultural history

The Altstad or Old Town of Salzburg is a Historic Citycentre of Salzburg. Declared a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site. It comprises of medieval and baroque architectural buildings that are unique. It draws millions of visitors every year.













The Altstadt/Old Town is also the birthplace of famed 17th century composer Wolfgang Mozart.

A Museum displaying his childhood instruments is located in this Baroque townhouse.

St. Peter's Abbey, is a Benedictine Monastery and former Cathedral in the City of Salzburg. It is considered one of the oldest Monasteries dating back to the 700s

This picturesque cemetery at St Peter's Abbey, dates back to the 17th century,

This enchanting little cemetery and the ancient Christian Catacombs is right at the path to the Fortress. The mystical caves served both as hermitages as well as burial sites.
