Chorsu Bazaar
The main attraction that we enjoyed visiting was the Chorsu Bazaar.
The Bazaar, a traditional domed shaped building, is several hundred years old.
Good opportunity to see the locals go about their daily activities..
Inside, the stalls are arranged in a circular pattern. Each sections sells a different item
Lots of fragrant spices.. we bought some turmeric powder
Large variety of Uzbek dried cheese balls and fresh cheese.
The dried cheese balls, called kurt or kurut, are made of soured milk seasoned with salt and pepper that are left to completely dry out. They can be kept for years. The cheese balls are really hard and not easy to bite into. Once you manage to bite some off, they are very salty.
Dried fruits and nuts
An assortment of fresh veges
Fresh fruits.. Could not resist, we bought some of the peaches and grapes
Various ready to eat food
Uzbek bread or Non. Each baker have their own pattern.
Uzbek baskets and brooms
Potteries with traditional Uzbek designs
Dad looking at the selection of Uzbek knives called Chust. These knives have handles made of horns or bones with a leather casing decorated with simple embroided patterns. Those made by craftsmen from the city of Chust comes with the inscription on the blade reading "Estalik Uchun Chust", translated as "in memory of Chust".
We had plov for lunch at Chorsu Bazaar too.
