Our Pakistani police escorts.. armed to the teeth.. as we got closer to the Afghanistan border, the number of armed escorts increased and eventually we were escorted by the ATF unit. The escorts stayed with us 24 hours a day. We were allowed to visit and stop anywhere along the route. However, if we wanted to detour, we had to inform the escort in advance, so the escort team in the area that we were visiting are available when we arrive.
