Last night, we stayed at the Indian Army Guests Mess having arrived after dark at the Kargil War Memorial. After our breakfast of potato pratha, omelette and tea, we had a look around the viewpoint before leaving the mess to visit Kargil War Memorial again. The surrounding Peaks were the locations of a fierce fight between neighbours India and Pakistan with India retaking the nine Mountain Peaks
Looking out to the Line of Control separating the Indian and Pakistani controlled parts Jammu and Kashmir State. Small pipes, serves as peep holes, helps with identifying the names of several peaks along the Line of Control such as Tiger Hill, Point 5100, Tololing Hills etc

Thanks for letting us stay the night!
Back at Kargil War Memorial again this morning. Kargil War Memorial, sometimes referred to as the Dras War Memorial, is about 10km east of Dras town.
The memorial was built by the Indian Army for those who have lost their lives in Ops Vijay in 1999.
Ops Vijay was fought over a period of just over two months from May to July 1999, ending with the recapture of all 9 surrounding hills, including Tiger Hill and Tololing Hill from the Pakistani. There is also a museum on the grounds of the memorial.
