India - Srinagar City 2013

The City of Srinagar... the summer capital of Jammu Kashmir region, famous for the Dal Lake, houseboats and the shikaras. Before we have a look around the city, it's time for lunch ...

Paper dosa, Rajma Pulao (red bean rice), mixed vegetable, aloo gobi (potato and cauliflower), pickles and mango juice.

Dal Lake

Dal Lake is a natural lake and a wetland. Centuries ago, Srinagar's Jewel was more than 5 times the size it is today. The southernmost part of Dal Lake is where the houseboats are berthed. The wetlands or Floating Garden is further north.

Perfect environment for the Lotus, the national flower of India.
The lotus plants are so prolific here that locals have to clear out some of the plants.
