Italy - 2012

Brecia is a city  in the region of Lombardy in Northern Italy,  situated at the foot of the Alps, close to the lakes Garda and Iseo.
Driving on to the City of Milan, will stop for lunch at Brescia.

Crespi D' Ada A village  located on the river Adda, 50 km from Milan  It is a historic settlement and an outstanding example of the 19th and early 20th-century "company built town/settlement" in Europe by industrialists to meet the workers' needs. The site is still intact, although changing economic and social conditions now threaten its survival.. Since 1995 it has been declared as A UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Some of the abandoned factories

The settlement which was built in 1878 next to the cotton-mill was a village, a residential area provided with social services such as a clinic, a school building, a theatre, a cemetery, a wash-house and a church. The village of Crespi d'Adda was the first village in Italy to have modern public lighting.      Today the village is inhabited by a community largely descended from the original workers. The factory stopped production only in 2004, its field of activity throughout its working life having been cotton textile production.

Cemetery in Crespi D' Ada  The cemetery of Crespi lays at the end of the main street. The Crespi Tower is the tomb of the Crespi family. The monument rises to embrace the workers' graves. below

Looks like a War cemetery.....its not...
