Vladivastok City
is the Capital of the Primorsky Krai, Far Eastern Russia. The city is located in Goldern Horn bay in the sea Of Japan. The City was established as a military outpost. It is the largest Naval base in the Pacific Ocean. It is the furtherest terminus of the Trans Siberian Railway.
We planned to overland from this city to Mongolia, driving a Malaysian Registered SUV 4x4 named Our Sorento. Exiting Russia at the Latvia/Russia Border to the Baltics States, Scandinavians and N.Europe and back to Malaysia via Iran/Pakistan border Taftaan, Pakistan
We came across this monument as we exit the GUM Old Courtyard. At first glance, we thought it was a monument to backpackers. Are there really that many backpackers in Vladivostok?? After googling a bit, this turns out to be a monument to the Soviet sailor just returning from an overseas tour.
Russia
In the Soviet days, the buildings around the courtyard were used as warehouses.
The area has been revitalised with new houses restaurants, cafes etc..

Vladivostok’s version of the Japanese cherry blossom?
The Amur Tiger is the symbol of Vladivostok and Primorye. The locals even have a holiday - Tiger Day, celebrated on the last Sunday of September every year. These tiger cubs were a gift from the WWF to the local residents as a symbol of their contribution to the conservation of tiger.

Altai Mountain Chuysky Trakt/ Road M52
We arrived at Tsagaannuur at 5.30pm. At the border checkpoint we paid 10,000 Tugrik for road tax and waited in line behind some lorries to get to Mongolian Customs. It was drizzling.
At 6.10pm, we went to the guard house and got a chit and got back to our car to wait for the gates to open. At 6.30pm, the gates were opened and it took another half hour to clear Customs and Immigration and exit Mongolia.
We travelled for a short distance on dirt road to get to the gates into Russia.
